Hague Apostille Agreement

The Hague Apostille Agreement, formally known as the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents, is an international treaty that simplifies the process of authenticating public documents for use in foreign countries. It eliminates the need for lengthy diplomatic or consular legalisation procedures by introducing the concept of an apostille, a certificate that verifies the authenticity of a document.
